University
of Haifa

For 50 years the University of Haifa has fostered academic excellence through interdisciplinary research and innovation. “Living laboratories” extend beyond the immediate communities to implement global solutions.

Driven by social responsibility and a novel integration of diverse disciplines, the University is forging new paradigms and solutions that address pressing global issues, including climate change, economic and geopolitical shifts, and a more socially just society.

Our students come from all religious backgrounds and socio-economic classes. Many are recent immigrants, others represent the first generation in their families to attend university.

With its unique vision and rapid expansion, the University of Haifa is achieving new heights in areas critical to the growth, expansion, and security of northern Israel.

Key Projects

Supporters of University of Haifa are our critical partners. They help sustain our success, unlock the talent of researchers, discover the potential of students, build for the future, and ensure that a world-class education is available for all who seek it. There are many ways to support the University — offering both immediate and long-lasting impact. Here are a few examples of key projects:

Scholarships

Establishing fellowships, stipends and scholarships are vitally needed to provide academically talented students or those who would otherwise not have the opportunity to receive higher education, the financial assistance necessary to continue their studies. Student scholarships are a driving force behind the University of Haifa’s success. They represent a key investment in the academic future of Israel and in meeting the social, cultural and technological challenges that lie ahead. More than one-third of our students receive scholarships.

Marine Sciences Research & Education

The most comprehensive school of Marine Sciences in Israel can be found at the University of Haifa. The Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences is a unique initiative on a global scale, applying an interdisciplinary approach with highly professional standards. The school sets to discover the potential of the sea for the benefit of all Mediterranean-bound nations and the world at large through the its Departments of Maritime Civilizations, Marine Geosciences, Marine Biology,  Marine Technologies and the Research Centre for Maritime Policy & Strategy.

Bringing our Scientists Home

The Returning Scientists Program strengthens Israel’s academic and scientific standing by identifying Israeli scholars living abroad and offering them a recruitment package to return to Israel. Over the past decade, the University of Haifa has actively recruited talented Israeli scientists residing abroad and successfully “brought them home” to the University. Returning scientists are provided with optimal work conditions to advance their research, including state-of-the-art research infrastructure and laboratories equipped with cutting-edge equipment.

Jewish-Arab Coexistence Programs

The University of Haifa is the most pluralistic university in Israel with the highest percentage of Arab students and faculty of any institution of higher education in the country. Just two examples of current coexistence projects are: The Social Mobility Program which aims to have a significant impact on shaping socio-economic policy, The Jewish-Arab Community Leadership Program which is in its 14th year of operation with the main objective to facilitate dialogue and multi-cultural social interaction between Jewish and Arab students.

Building Additional Student Dormitories

The Mount Carmel Campus currently has only 1,100 dormitories for more than 18,000 students – an unreasonably low number for the largest comprehensive research university serving the country’s northern region.  The lack of affordable housing spaces limits the University’s ability to attract a greater number of outstanding students in the north. It is essential that we provide comfortable and affordable student housing by building more dormitories to accommodate at least an additional 500 students.

Join the Alumni Community

The University’s alumni are its ambassadors to the world and we hold them in the highest regard. If you attended the University as a full-time or international student and live in Canada, we invite you to join our alumni community, receive invitations to exclusive events and meet with other fellow alumni.
